Winter Solstice

With Nvidia Iray

I modeled, textured, lit and rendered this project using Maya, Substance Designer, Nvidia Iray and MDL.  This project went through a lot of changes but maintained the integrity of the original design I developed. It was so much fun playing with every thing in this scene from the ice and snow , to the lights. I really wanted to show off the physical accuracy of Iray so I decided to accurately model the Christmas lights down to the glass bead and wire coil on the inside. Doing this made the lights really stand out and it made the scene pop. 


While working on this project, Iray performed really well. Iray Interactive handled displacement , refractive and transparent materials easily and quickly, making the iteration process fun and easy for me when changes were requested!

For the final video, we wanted to have snow falling so it made sense to add a thin layer of snow to the pine cones and the cranberries. This helped to tie in the scene with the environment.
